I suspect the issue here is not entirely an Adobe one. I worked with Adobe Support for months but ultimately gave up and switched to Camtasia for all my screen recording needs. As soon as I click my webcam, the video demo ceases to function and causes the crash you are describing. I can only get video demo to work if I reinstall my operating system, all software and not connect my webcam. Unfortunately, temporarily disconnecting the webcam doesn't work. I suspect it is related to my Logitech webcam. I have been unable to use video demo for years. I think I'm experiencing the same issue you are.
